Influential Individual - Torre Washington
I just decided to not talk about it but to be about it and start working on my path.
For those that have been following our Influential Individual segments, you know that we cover stories of individuals we believe are great examples for others to look up to. Those that are influential, motivating and inspiring.
We're particularly excited about this feature as he is an icon to the vegan community, as well as the bodybuilding community. He has received awards from a number of bodybuilding competitions, was feautured in GQ Magazine in 2016 and just recently was interviewed by Insider.
His story also shows how manifesting can create your reality. Read on and find out more about Torre's story!
The basics: Who is Torre? Where did you grow up and where do you currently reside?
Torre is currently an individual on a journey to being his best self as a human being, coach, trainer, mentor and physique competitor. I grew up in Alabama, Jamaica and Florida. I currently reside in South Florida.
It’s hard to imagine you having any spare time. You seem like you’re always on the go, always doing something. But when things do wind down, what do you enjoy doing?
When things wind down, I like to relax and lay with my cats and travel or watch an anime series.
Congrats on everything you’ve accomplished thus far. We’ve always been huge fans of yours. Most recently we saw an article on Insider. We even saw an ad for Chris Hemsworth’s Centr and saw you as part of the team! How did all this come about?
Thank you and funny enough they all seemed to have manifested based on my thoughts and actions, I was doing a live on IG and someone asked me to come to Australia and I said "one day I will" then the call came in from the Centr people and on to Australia I went. Insider was just out of the blue and it was right on time.
A lot of the Influential Individuals we interviewed in the past had a different career path before being where they are now. Was being in the fitness industry always part of the plan?
I was a Mechanical Engineer working in the automotive industry and fitness was my side passion and hobby, but I decided to make the hobby a career and what an amazing journey so far.
You have an engineering degree, but decided to pursue bodybuilding. Did you ever come across certain family members or friends who criticize your career choices? What were their objections and how did you handle it?
Yes, I sure did. They were concerned with my earning potential and having a job for security. I just decided to not talk about it but to be about it and start working on my path.
What did you have to give up/sacrifice to follow your dream? If you could go back and change one thing, knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently?
I gave up my first purchased house. I would have bought a house earlier and started my fitness journey earlier and took advantage of social media before it became so controlled now.
Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
5yrs from I hope to see myself living where I want to and finally to have competed on the Olympia stage and to have helped at least 1 million people change their lives for the better. Also to have my own financial backing to tackle other projects and help humanity.
Define a go-getter.
A go-getter is one who doesn't accept excuses but is humble enough to know the difference.
What (or who) is your greatest inspiration?
My greatest inspiration is me accomplishing my goals and tasks for the day and Arnold Schwarzenegger when he used to compete.
You’re talking to a group of admirers and people who find you as an inspiration. What is the best advice you can give them about following their dreams?
The best advice I can give is to not let "no" associate you with being a failure. Continue to press on don't take things personally.
